Relationship Therapy with Colleen Leafloor

  • What is relationship therapy?

Relationship therapy, in this context, is psychotherapy for individuals in either a personal or professional relationship, who would benefit from therapeutic intervention to support them in exploring issues as they relate to the health of the relationship. Issues that could be explored in relational therapy include: communication skills, personal or professional boundaries, expectations, or dynamics, reconciliation, trust, etc.,

Relationship therapy, in this context, applies many of the same tenants associated with couples therapy in supporting individuals towards improving and prioritizing their important relationships.

  • My approach to relationship therapy

My approach to relationship therapy is similar to my approach to all therapeutic intervention, which is explored here. Relational therapy services are an extension of my reverence for relationship, honesty, collaboration, communication, clarity, and health within connection. I consider myself a couples therapist by niche, and the commitments we ask partners to make in couples therapy (re: communication, boundaries, honesty, collaboration, active listening) serve to enrich more than just our romantic relationships. Relationship therapy could be of benefit to those in co-parenting relationships, business partners, friends, colleagues, and even relatives; it is for people in relationships who may benefit from therapeutic support in working towards a specific and collaborative goal.

Relationship therapy is not available for online booking, as there must be a consultation prior to any bookings. Relationship therapy does not fall within the traditional guidelines for therapy provided to those in relationships because these relationships are not necessarily romantic or familial (although they can be). For this reason, ensuring ethical practice is at the forefront of this service necessitates that cases be explored in consultation between therapist and client, and potentially therapist and clinical supervisor, prior to booking. Seeking clinical supervision is apart of Briar's commitment to providing care that is ethical, accountable, and safe-guarded to prioritize the well-being of any client seeking psychotherapy services.

Relationship Therapy FAQs

  • Relationship therapy always begins with a consultation. Consultations can be scheduled online or by reaching out through the Contact Us page.

In consultation, we will meet to explore your presenting concerns, collective goals, and explore potential next steps in terms of how therapy can support those goals.

  • All therapy sessions are 50 minutes, and the first session is an intake session. Intake sessions are an opportunity to further review the presenting concerns and goals in more detail, as well as explore the dynamic of the relationship and the individuals themselves.

Intake sessions also represent an important opportunity for clients to explore their needs and determine if this is a good fit for them; as a client, your experience is a deeply relevant determinate of success, particularly given the therapeutic relationship is an important part of therapeutic progress.

Intake sessions allow us to get to know one another in more depth, while further exploring how I can support you towards the identified collaborative goals.

  • Insurance companies vary, and it is recommended that you confirm with your provider that they are willing to reimburse you for this service.
